The 22nd Istanbul Theatre Festival to host Nederlands Dans Theater I in November 2018

The 22nd edition of the Istanbul Theatre Festival is getting ready to meet the theatregoers in November 2018. The first highlight of the festival programme will be four performances by the renowned contemporary dance company Nederlands Dans Theater I. The performances will be realised with the support of Consulate General of Netherlands and Zorlu Performing Arts Centre, Festival’s Venue Sponsor with the Highest Contribution on 28 and 29 November 2018 at 20.30 at Zorlu PSM Main Theatre.

Shaping the future of contemporary dance by their immaculate choreographies paired with a wide range of music compositions, innovative light and set designs, and brilliant dancers, Nederlands Dans Theater I will be in Istanbul to perform a four-part dance marathon choreographed by four of the most prolific choreographers of the troupe. The company will present a breath-taking selection from its rich repertoire to the festival audience: From house choreographers of NDT, Sol León and Paul Lightfoot, comes Shut Eye and Shoot the Moon; from Crystal Pite, associate choreographer of the troupe of 10 years who has choreographed over 50 award-winning works for many troupes such as Paris Opera Ballet, Ballet Frankfurt and The National Ballet of Canada, comes The Statement; and from Marco Goecke, also the company’s associate choreographer and the two-time recipient of Holland’s prestigious Zwaan awards in the category of ‘Most Impressive Choreography’, comes Woke up Blind.

In Shut Eye, Ólafur Arnalds and Bryce Dessner’s expressive music inspires a halcyon tale, and in Shoot the Moon, Philip Glass’ cinematic compositions provides inspiration for a passionate poem about dissolution of romantic relationships that takes place on an eye-catching set divided into three rooms. The Statement depicts the battle for control between four characters that have been tasked with fuelling a conflict in a distant country. In Woke up Blind, six dancers throw themselves into the unknown as they excel in contesting with the vocal power and frenetic guitar sounds of Jeff Buckley, who died tragically and young.
