Müjdat Gezen was born on 29 October 1943 in Istanbul, Fatih. He made his stage debut at the age of 10, the same year his poems were published in the children’s magazine Doğan Kardeş. During this period, he was introduced to the microphone at the Istanbul Radio Children’s Club and joined amateur theatre groups. After attending Vefa High School, he began his professional acting career at the Istanbul Municipal Theatre and enrolled in the Theatre Department at the Istanbul Municipality Conservatory. In the following years, he worked with private theatre companies, including those of Münir Özkul, Muammer Karaca, and Ulvi Uraz. In 1967, he founded Halk Oyuncuları, and the following year, he opened his own private theatre. During the 1970s, he began working in television and in 1982, co-founded the Güldürü Üretim Merkezi (Humour Production Centre) with Kandemir Konduk. Concurrently, he taught Turkish Theatre at the Istanbul Municipality Conservatory and later at the Istanbul University State Conservatory. In 1991, he established the Müjdat Gezen Art Centre, nurturing talented actors and writers. Throughout his career, he has appeared in nearly 100 films, an equal number of plays, and over a thousand radio and television sketches. He has also directed eight films, five television series, and written dozens of books.
