The genesis of “80060” dates from August 1997. The project is based on such concepts as “street culture”, “popular art”, “underground art” which have gradually lost their meaning. The project stimulates the re-evaluation of these concepts in the light of their contemporary counterparts. After the play’s structure surfaced, Özen Yula wrote an “urban tale” based on “urban culture”. The crucial position occupied by music in the play led to the idea of writing the text as a libretto. The tale that begins in the back streets and is embodied in a fantastic world. The technological structure of the music serves to strenghthen the techno-shaman visions in the play. This techno-shaman “play” complemented by cartoons aims to discuss the meaning behind “that which is popular” and “popular art.”
