Gisela May is one of the greatest Brecht interpreters from Germany. After a fifty year career on stage she is today stil at the forefront. Gisela May began her career as an actress and was with the Berliner Ensemble for many years and left her mark with her unforgettable performance in “Mother Courage”. Following Hanns Eisler’s discovery of her musical talent Gisela May successfully interpreted the compositions of Eisler, Kurt Weill and Paul Dessau , thus gaining international recognition. Her great debut was heard all over Europe, then later on at the Carnegie Hall in New York and in Australia’s Sydney Opera. The homage paid to Bertolt Brecht through Gisela May on the occasion of his centenary has profound significance.
