George Tabori is a multi-talented author well-known by the American, British and German theatres. He wrote his first novel during the Second World War, continued his career with numerous screenplays and plays in the 1950s and became famous in the 1960s with his works in theatre, cinema and literature. A British citizen and a Jew, Tabori was born in Budapest. He is a world author who once lived in New York and has been living in Berlin for some time now. His play “Requiem für einen Spion” which held its world premier in Vienna’s “Akademitheater” in 1993 offers a paordy of spies and gives a shocking and telling account of modern human relationships. Behind the clownish and at times absurd dialogues, one finds meaningful and bitter stories. Tabori displays his original black humour in this play skillfully.
