The 10th International Istanbul Theatre Festival celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Turkish Republic with “Struggle of the Nation”, an epic play by the renowned poet Nazım Hikmet. Nazım Hikmet started to write the play in Istanbul Detention House in 1939 and completed it in Çankırı and Bursa prisons in 1940-41. It was not published as “Struggle of the Nation”. This 30-year delay symbolises the slow development of Turkey in many fields. Ergin Orbey’s interpretation addresses both the heart and the mind and is performed by a distinguished cast from Istanbul State Theatre.
