DÜSSELDORFER SCHAUSPIELHAUS

  • Written by: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
  • Directed by: Janusz Wisniewski

Janusz Wisniewski works a miracle, a miracle no director no director ever has accomplished before: he comes up with a Faust 1 amd 2 which lasts only 90 minutes. “What I am showing here is a Faust at his very hottest and most feverish moment. He is passionate seeker of truth, in the most enormous religious meaning of the word.” Wisnievski leads his characters from Heaven through the world to Hell. He focuses the Faust material on the fight with God and formulates questions that deal with the spiritual connections of being. He philosophizes about the flaws of the human intellect and explores the role of God in the 20th century, searching for truth and contemplating death. Being one of the leading theatres in Germany, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus will perfrom within the frame of the 250th anniversary of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s birthday.
