MACUNAIMA THEATRE GROUP
- Written by: Euripides
- Directed by: Antunes Filho
The war between Greek and Trojans is the archetype of all other wars- Troy is the archetype of the community devastated by the war. The huge gap in time between the first presentation of Euripides’ “The Trojan Women””, 415 B.C. and this adapted version by Antunes Filho only heightens the freshness and relevance wich are inherent to every great art, because, in more than two thousand years, as the play emphasizes, mankind has not learned anything about the war. This year the festival will have for the first time a South American company Macunaima, is not only a reknown name within the borders of South Africa but in Europe as well. “The Trojan Women” will take part at the Theatre Olympics in Japan immediately after its world premiere at the 11th International Istanbul Theatre Festival.
