DOSTLAR THEATRE
- Written by: Can Yücel
- Adapted, Directed and Performed by: Genco Erkal
Genco Erkal is celebrating his 40th year on stage just as the Dostlar Theatre reaches its 30th. Erkal commemorates these two anniversaires with his new performance, “Can”. Through his poems Can Yücel thoroughly questions and breathes life; each poem overlows with the stuff of life, making us contemplate, laugh and sometimes even cry. With his own unique style, Can Yücel is a master of the Turkish language. He creates an overwhelming sense of excess when he puts pen to paper, and expands our world with this. Genco Erkal is one of the ground-breaking figures of Turkish theatre. He is an artist who questions and explores. After Bertolt Brecht, Nazım Hikmet and Aziz Nesin, he has now decided on reading Can Yücel “aloud” in his own way. Genco Erkal doesn’t aim at acting Can Yücel. He wanders through the exciting world of the poet meticulously. He reads Yücel’s poems as he perceives. Wandering through the world created by Can Yücel with Genco Erkal, is a thought-provoking and meaningful experience.
