German choreographer Pina Bausch and the Wuppertal Dance Theatre mesmerised audiences with “Der Fensterputzer” at the 10th International Istanbul Theatre Festival two years ago. This year the renowned Pina Bausch and her company return to the Festival with “Masurca Fogo”. This production, realised by Bausch within the scope of a project called “People and Cities” is a tribute to Lisbon as well as elements of Portuguese culture and colours. The actor/dancers of the company present Pina Bausch’s unique imagination with a perfect sense of humour and professionalism accompanied by a score composed of fago, tango, jazz and pop. The flow of the perfromance is made even more forceful by means of giant images, that seem to be the enormous and engulfing waves of the sea, projected onto the movements onstage. “Masurca Fogo” at the Lisbon Expo ’98 and will provide Istanbul theatre-goers with a glimpse of a culture that is closer to the Mediterranean.
