The Wooster Group is an ensemble of artists who collaborate on the development and production of theater and media pieces. Founded in 1970 by Elizabeth LeCompte and Willem Dafoe, the company has played a pivotal role in bringing technically sophisticated and evocative uses of sound, film and video into the realm of contemporary theater. Their former productions of Euripides, Chekhov, Eugene O’Neill or Tenesee Williams are still touring worldwide. The Wooster Group’s last work “To You, The Birdie!” based on the classical tragedy of Racine; “Phedre,” is a soap opera of windows and reflections, confessions and confrontations set in a mobile modernist landscape of aliminum tracks, sliding plexiglass panels, omnipresent monitors and hidden cameras. “To You, The Birdie!” performed its European premiere at Le Festival d’Automne in Paris. The New York premier was in February 2002.
