STATE OPERA and BALLET- MODERN DANCE COMPANY

  • Choreography: Beyhan Murphy

Ever since its premiere in 2001, “Travelogue” has been a sell-out. It is a multi-media production with its combination of dance, design, video, text and music. Having been to İzmir, Bursa, Kocaeli, İstanbul and the Dance Festival in Holland, it is now joining The International Istanbul Theatre Festival for the first time and with the name “Travelogue 2002” capturing the spirit at the culmination of its natural growth with the newly added scenes. The two-act “Travelogue” interfuses Beyhan Murphy’s original scenario with Mercan Dede’s music by which the many-sided composer -also known with the name Arkın Allen- reveals his musical vision into a synthesis of East and West through his uniquely electronic and acoustic sound. “Travelogue 2002” blends descriptions from Evliya Çelebi’s 17th Century travels with Orhan Pamuk’s fine inquiry -in his book “Other Colors” (“Öteki Renkler”)- into the mental state of the modern individual. The production also brings together on screen popular figures from related fields of the performance art.
