“Limping Tales from İstanbul” is built around the concept of integrating aksak rhyhtm into sound, text and acting. Aksak rhythm is a particular style in Ottoman musical structure, a musical metre characterized by combinations of irregular units of beats. The text of the play is made up of 12 fragmented monologues of 12 characters who are in some way related with each other and are all based in Istanbul. Sections of the play are designed according to variations of aksak rhythm. (aksak-limping, halting, not flowing). Concepts of the symmetry/asymetry, order/disorder are at stake as the play unfolds with a series of composed hitches. Just like living in İstanbul, despite all the hitches the play goes on. “Ve Diğer Şeyler Topluluğu” is an ensemble concentrated on new texts, new technologies and interdisciplinarity. Another project of the same theatre group “House - A Cacophonic Play” will be shown at the “New Plays form Europe Theatre Biennial” based in Wiesbaden, Germany in June 2004.
