Of the stories that reach us, it is the unhappy-ending ones that we mostly know: Romeo and Juliet, Aslı and Kerem, Leyla and Mecnun and the like. They are stories all about the despair from not being able to reach the Beloved, about the kind of compassion and love that was to be met with hindrance. Those who do reach whom they love quench their thirst in the end, those who cannot, however, become perpetuated in legends that extend from one language to another or from life down into the books as well as from the ground up onto the stage. By the time of Nevros, two loves commence one with a happy end, one without. In this story of the two equally compassionate couples, the fate which unites Siti and Tajdin paves the way for what would separate Mem and Zin. The loving couple would then have to sum up their agonizing lives in the embrace they give to each other in the grave.
