Charleroi / Danses; Plan K

The 14th International İstanbul Theatre Festival is opening with Charleroi-Danses/Plan K spectacle; “Metapolis-Project 972.” Man and city is the theme choreograph Frederic Flamand chose to explore in his choreographic theatre. In his collaboration with architect Zaha Hadid who recently received Laureate of the Pritzker Architecture Prize 2004, Frederic Flamand continued his exploration into the relationship between dance and architecture. The spectacle “Metapolis Project 972” gave Flamand and Hadid the opportunity to verify the common themes of their respective pursuit, through a reflection on body, motion, space and city. Besides the collaboration with Zaha Hadid, Frédéric Flamand worked with the American architects Elizabeth Diller & Ricardo Scofidio (“Moving Target”/1996, “EJM1”-Charleroi/Danses & “EJM2”-Lyon Opera Ballet/1999), with the French architect Jean Nouvel (Hanover EXPO2000-”Future of Work”, “Body/Work/Leisure”/2001), and recently, for the Venice Biennial 2003, with Thom Mayne / Morphosis (“Silent Collisions”/2003).

We would like to thank ENKA T.A.Ş for sponsoring this performance.
