The play titled “Wings in Fire of Life” tells us the way Jalal ad-din ar-Rumi searches endlessly for Shams of Tabriz, his “eternal” friend, whose unexplained vanishing plagues him. Turgay Nar brings together bits and pieces of much fragmented myths and historical figures around a single universal theme, and establishes fictive parallels between Rumi’s quest and the journey of the thirty birds in pursuit of the Phoenix. Rumi’s destination is by far an arduous one to reach. He is to pass through the dim valleys and craggy peaks with terraces stepped up to symbolize the ups and downs of the rugged course of human life. To unveil the mystery behind all existence, he tries with each of them to unfold what lies behind its many attributes.
