The Taganka Theatre, founded by Yuri Lyubimov in 1964, quickly became a legend of Russian Theatre with the unique, and at times provocative interpretations of traditional and contemporary texts. Plays and operas staged by Taganka over the 42 years have constantly been sold out at the box office, and they attend the festival with ‘Medea’ which received the ‘Audience Award’ at the International Athens Theatre Festival. The play explores the sense of belonging and the concept of the ‘alien’ and holds light to contemporary problems that have persisted for thousands of years.
