The second play of legendary director Peter Brook to be staged at the festival is the stage adaptation of “The Grand Inquisitor”, a chapter, which has also been separately published, of the second volume of Dostoievsky’s ‘The Brothers Karamazov’. Dostoevsky wrote this chapter as a response to the hostile questions posed at the Christian faith by Russian anarchism and Peter Brook relates the story in a virtually empty setting from the mouth of the Inquisitor, focusing on human nature and the religious pursuit.
