The Festival audience will recall the most renowned and influential theatre director of Japan, Tadashi Suzuki, from his stagings of Dionysos and Ivanov. Suzuki will meet İstanbul’s theatregoers this time with his interpretation of Electra, based on Euripides’s classical text and Hofmannsthal’s beginning of the century free adaptation of Sophocles’s Electra. Suzuki’s staging presents Electra’s dark fantasy of revenge in a style which makes use, both visually and auditorily, of certain traditional Japanese theatre techniques.
