The first readings of “Theatre Uncut, Istanbul” project’s short plays will be held within the festival. Theatre Uncut has been initiated with a simple idea by the project directors Emma Callander and Hannah Price in 2010 in Britain. Directors asked prominent playwrights to write short plays that will theatrically respond to today’s political situation. In the first three years, the project involved playwrights from England, Scotland, USA, Argentina, Spain, Greece, Syria, Iceland and Egypt. The plays were staged in 17 countries. The project was rewarded with the prestigious Fringe First, Herald Angel and Scotsman Spirit awards in 2012 Edinburgh Festival. DOT staged an exclusive selection of Theatre Uncut’s short plays with the title of “Makas Oyunları” in 2013/14 season in Istanbul. Began with a workshop held in February in Istanbul with collaboration of DOT, “Theatre Uncut, Istanbul” project will involve playwrights Davey Anderson and Stef Smith from Britain as well as Ayfer Tunç, Berkun Oya, Hakan Günday and Derem Çıray from Turkey. The play-readings will be directed by Murat Daltaban, Emma Callender and Hannah Price in Istanbul and Edinburgh. Short plays of Theatre Uncut Istanbul will be read on 18 August in Traverse Theatre within the scope of Fringe programme of Edinburgh Festival.
