Elif Şafak’s novel The Bastard of Istanbul raised a lot of controversy and was even the subject of a criminal investigation. Still it is one of the writer’s best-selling novels and will be staged for the first time in Turkey. Centered around the relationships of a Turkish and an Armenian family, the play looks back on both societies and tells us about the Armenian incidents of 1915 together with the stories of four generations of women from a family which lost all of its men before their time.
