The Tempest, Shakespeare’s lively play which combines hefty issues such as power, betrayal, revenge, forgiveness and colonization with a comic atmosphere is brought to stage by Kemal Aydoğan, a director who likes to play around with Shakespeare. This is a take on the play where the fantastical construction of The Tempest accompany the foundation of public theatre and the political statement of the play on the issue of “being liberated” is brought to the fore. As was the case in Aydoğan’s other adaptations of Shakespeare, get ready to meet a Tempest that communicates with the contemporary person and speaks directly to you.

MODA STAGE Established in 1969 as a movie theatre named Kafkas Cinema, the hall was turned into Moda Cinema in 1984 providing an important art venue for Istanbul that hosts concerts, theatre troupes and film festivals. After being a prominent venue for Istanbul art life in the 80’s and 90’s, the hall fell into dire times in recent years, but was resuscitated by the coming together of 12 people active in different branches of film and theatre who, inspired by Moda Cinema, transformed the place into Moda Stage and it once again became a quality venue for art events. Since its establishment in 2013, Moda Stage contributed to inter-cultural dialogue by hosting domestic and foreign artists in a variety of different art disciplines and worked towards proliferation of art by organizing workshops and seminars aimed at children and youth. Focusing on producing in-house plays, Moda Stage is devoted to bringing quality classic and modern plays to audiences.
