being is a captivating, fresh and impressive production from Icelandic choreographer and dancer Bára Sigfúsdóttir. The choreographer’s intellectual curiosity towards other cultures led her to join the UNTIMELY Festival in Tehran in 2014 and paved the way for a new project.

During a workshop she held, Sigfúsdóttir became acquainted with two local artists Masoumeh Jalalieh and Seyed Alireza Mirmohammadi. These three artists conveyed their sincere collaboration born from the artistic bond between Iceland and Persia to being. being is a production centred on the body and existence. In this performance, the presence of the body constitutes the basis of perceiving the world and each other. The body in motion on the stage indicates different layers of senses and experiences. Bára Sigfúsdóttir employs this body as a platform to establish and consider a dialogue between West European and Persian identities. These three artists explore the body, not as a place to underline our differences but to discover what we have in common, and invite the audience for a poetic discovery.

Istanbul Theatre Festival and Platform 0090 (www.0090.be), an interdisciplinary and international workspace based in Belgium, have a longstanding collaboration. In 2018, Istanbul Theatre Festival and Platform 0090 present five productions with a strong inherent connotation to Turkish culture because of the involvement of Turkish artists and the influence of Turkish subjects, themes and contexts. These performances are presented under the common denominator: ‘Choice from Flanders’ and is supported by the Flemish Ministry of Culture.
