An adaptation of the third autobiographical novel by Édouard Louis, one of the greatest literary sensations of our time… Louis is an author who literally has a true story. Born into poverty in a village in northern France, Louis’ novel titled Who Killed My Father? is written in the form of a letter to his father that sincerely and courageously explores the sources of his own anger at the working class... The author returns home to visit his father, after a long time, to find a man wrecked as the result of a life marked by alcohol, poverty, fatigue, hard labour and a crippling industrial accident... Louis is inspired by the image of his father rendered unrecognizable, and explains with striking language through an anger-soaked letter, how the politics of the elite has primarily become an “aesthetic issue” and how the working classes are crushed under the burden of this “aesthetic” that is useless to them. In this play, adapted for the stage by Internationaal Theater Amsterdam and Ivo van Hove, all the trauma and shock of the truth will be on stage...
