Arts Map is a digital mapping and networking platform, implemented by the Consulate General of the Netherlands and Inogarart, that brings actors of art and culture together to encourage new collaborations. Arts Map was inspired by the unifying power of art and culture and the importance of building partnerships to work towards common goals.

The foundation of the Arts Map project was laid between November 2017 and February 2019 by the cultural exploration project initiated by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ankara and the Consulate General of the Netherlands in İstanbul, in cooperation with the İKSV Cultural Policy Studies department. This exploration project aimed to meet the Turkish arts and cultural world in order to create a sustainable dialogue for future projects. In this context, 19 cities representing cultural diversity in Turkey were selected to identify cultural and artistic actors and to clearly determine the needs of the field. As a result of the interviews and presentations conducted in 19 cities, a natural connection was established between major cities such as İstanbul and Ankara, while the arts and culture network in the rest of the country began to connect. This cultural exploration brought many names from the fields of arts and culture together, as well as helping many cultural actors who were not previously visible gain recognition. The next step in the research was to bring together this newly established vast network by holding a conference titled Making Connections Through Arts and Culture. The conference, held in cooperation with İKSV on June, 26 - 27 2019, brought together important actors from the world of art and culture in Turkey and the Netherlands and representatives from the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The need for a deeper and more sustainable dialogue was demonstrated through the participation of 750 in-person and over 20,000 online people attending the conference.

This time, Arts Map, which aims to create a cultural and artistic ecosystem that is sustainable using networking, training of trainers, information sharing and joint projects, is bringing several names from the performing arts field together during a three-day programme, in collaboration with the İstanbul Theatre Festival, titled Sustain The Stage! on October 26, 27 and 28, 2021.

Dutch and Turkish professionals from the field of performing arts will be brought together. 5 performers/festival directors/theater directors from NL, 20 performers/festival directors/theater directors from Turkey and 5 social economy specialists will participate the programme. The event will be held hybrid.

Alper Baytekin from the fields of performing arts and Selin Gurdere from the fields of social design will host the event as trainers.

Best practises on sustainability during Covid pandemic will be presented on the first day of the event including 2 best practises from Turkey; Fringe İstanbul, Galata Perform and 2 best practises from the Netherlands; Nite Hotel, Ninetees Producties. On the second day of the event there will be a co-design session where performing arts professionals will come together with the circular economy experts for new solutions to be created to build a circular economy strategy. Within the scope of ArtsMap aiming to create a sustainable culture and art ecosystem, the workshop will redesign the future of the Performing Arts by using design-based theory and participatory co-design methods with its participants, consisting of Dutch and Turkish performing arts professionals and circular economy experts. With this workshop, participants will work in teams to focus on the question of “How can we build sustainable stage strategies for the future of performing arts?” and will have the opportunity to “discover, empathize, define, ideate and design” together in an inclusive negotiation environment on the theme of “Sustain the Stage!”
