What is a writer’s responsibility? To give voice to those without one, or to remain alone with the possibilities of writing and thought?

Adapted and directed by Saim Güveloğlu from J. M. Coetzee’s novel about the writer Elizabeth Costello, Elizabeth Costello explores the role of the intellectual, the relationship between the writer and the work, and the idea of ethical responsibility. Centred on questions about what theatre can represent and whether a play can be created solely out of aesthetic concerns, it brings literature and theatre, writer and character, representation and responsibility to the stage without taking sides.
