What could bring Haruki Murakami, William Shakespeare and the Russia–Ukraine war onto the same stage?
Written and directed by five-time Golden Mask winner Dmitry Krymov, Requiem brings together seemingly distant characters, eras and stories in a shared confrontation with loss and hope, innocence and violence. Drawing on Murakami’s Kafka on the Shore and Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the production brings these works together with the harsh realities in the contemporary world.
Having left Russia following its invasion of Ukraine, Krymov dedicates Requiem to children who do not lose hope even in the darkest of times.
