In her Stitching Memory workshop, artist Damla Sandal invites participants to forge new connections between past and present through photography and embroidery. In Sandal’s practice, which reinterprets old photographs through embroidery, photography moves beyond simply documenting the past to become a space where memory can be altered and recreated. The workshop will offer two different programmes over two days. At İKSV Alt Kat, participants will work with photographs selected from the history of the Istanbul Theatre Festival, while at İMÇ they will reinterpret photographs from their personal histories through embroidery.
