İSTANBUL MUNICIPAL THEATRE

  • Written by: Emmanuel Robles
  • Director: Erol Keskin

In 1980, The Municipal Theatre of Istanbul participated in the VIII. International Istanbul Festival with Emmanuel Robles’s play, “Montserrat.” Strange enough, the production did not have much chance to continue the theatre season, because the theme was considered as “not appropriate” for the military government. After 15 years, we are delighted to welcome back “Montserrat” specially mounted for the Festival. Erol Keskin was the director then, he is the director now. The setting was St. Irene Church and it is the same. The Algerian Emmanuel Robles’s “Montserrat” is the dramatisation of an early-nineteenth-century Venezuelan struggle for freedom against the Spanish army in which a young Spanish solider’s grim choice will eventually doom innocent people.
