The single most important question that has ever occupied mankind isthat of deathand the secret of immortality. Azerbaijian director Namık Agayev once more brings this universal question to our agenda with “Gilgamesh”, the product of the great Mesopotamian culture. In hıs mainly visual interpretation, he makes use of body language and stage construction as well as music. Hand made drums, glasses and musical instruments such as horns, saxophones, dulcimers and flutes seem to sen references to Mesopotamia’s cultural mosaic. İstanbul’s Underground Cistern will no doubt provide the best location for this play previously performed in the historical Hıdırlık fortress of Antalya.
