Seçkin Selvi graduated from Üsküdar American Academy before studying at the Faculty of Language, History and Geography at Ankara University. She began her career as a translator in 1957 with William Saroyan’s play Hello Out There and has been writing theatre reviews since 1962. Pursuing translation, journalism and criticism in parallel, she has worked as a translator for 68 years and as a critic for 62 years. To date, she has translated 180 works in the fields of theatre, philosophy and literature.

She also designed sets and costumes for various theatre companies, including Gen-Ar, Arena, Gülriz Sururi-Engin Cezzar and Ayfer Feray, as well as for the University Theatre of the Turkish National Student Federation and the Teachers’ Union Theatre. She published the magazines Tiyatro 70 and Edebiyat 81, and wrote columns for the newspapers Günaydın and Sabah. Since 1986, her theatre reviews have been published in Milliyet Sanat magazine.

For 15 years, she taught theatre criticism at Müjdat Gezen Art Centre and the Department of Theatre at Yeditepe University. Since 2004, she has continued to work as a translator and editor at Can Publishing.
