ANKARA STATE THEATRE

  • Written and Directed by: Josef Szajna

Josef Szajna, considered as one of the most important Polish directors since the great master Kantor, stages a play with Turkish actors for the first time. In his non-fictional theatre, there are no specific characters. There are only living figures-naked or wrapped in cloth -symbolizing the universal human being through poetic outbursts and grotesque movements. There are no props, only the remains of what is left of man. Emphasising only the pictural visions rather than the wod, with an approach similar to that of the morality plays of middle ages, Szajna approaches the null point of abstraction and questions of our century.
