Alfred Jarry ile William Shakespeare

There is a strong similartiy between Alfred Jarry’s “Ubu Rex” and Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”. Both have power crazed couples at their heart and director Silviu Pucarete makes that plain. But another power crazed couple has probably influenced Romania’s National Theatre of Craiova in the past and almost certainly in this play: Nicolae and Elena Ceausescu. Purcarete says that he would not have staged this production if the real dictators were stil alive. The result would not have been so richly comic as this bizzarely effective production.
